Bringing a High-End Travel Experience Online
I was hired by Juice, a Bournemouth-based design agency, to build a new website for Timbila Private Camp, a luxury safari and conservation destination in Namibia. Working as a freelance developer, my role was to take the approved Adobe designs and deliver a pixel-perfect build that captured the premium feel of the brand.
With 11 pages and 13 custom components, this was a brochure-style site with a fast turnaround, but still held to the highest quality standards.
The Build
The site was built in WordPress using Gutenberg and Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), all powered by a custom theme. Each block was developed from scratch to match the designs precisely while ensuring the Timbila team can update content easily in the native block editor.
Key Components
Some of the custom blocks developed for this build included:
- Dynamic Banner Block: Full-width banner with editable text, images, and optional overlay styles.
- Contact Block: Location-specific contact details with integrated form.
- Video Lightbox: Play video content in a modal window without leaving the page.
- Subscribe Block: Email sign-up form styled to match the brand.
- Flexible Text/Image Blocks: Configurable layouts allowing image and text positioning to be swapped directly in the editor.
Pixel-Perfect Execution
While the designs were clean and straightforward, the agency still required perfection. This meant precise attention to spacing, typography, and responsive behaviour, ensuring the site looked exactly as intended on both desktop and mobile.
